A Prayer For Peace – Amala Foundation
June 16, 2012
We recently collaborated with the Amala Foundation to create a short, artistic piece. We integrated many faces and voices from the Amala Community, Jefe’s writing and cinematography, and Kelly’s story-piece editing*.
The Amala foundation unites people of all ages, from all communities to experience life from a heart centered, global perspective. From a community center and spiritual sanctuary, to hosting youth projects for local, international, refugee, and immigrant youth, they truly are a holistic, multifaceted organization. I am fully indebted to the Amala Foundation for the growth and healing I’ve experienced from being a member of this community, especially during the past four months working on this piece.
Because the organization is so expansive, it really was a puzzle figuring out how to best capture the essence of the organization in just two minutes. The process was beautiful and transformational. The film itself took on a life of it’s own as I integrated the community members own spoken truth.
Again, I feel so much gratitude to the Amala Foundation for their unconditional love, and generosity.
If you would like to experience this community first hand, on June 24th they are hosting a Global Roots Benefit Concert at CTC Garden. Please GO! I promise it’ll be an amazing time. View the Calendar for more events happening at the Community Center.
With that said, please enjoy the Prayer for Peace and check out the Amala Foundation website while you’re at it.
Many Blessings!
* Story-Piece editing is a term Kelly crafted to mean piecing together jumbled sound bites to create a meaningful story. It’s a lot like putting together puzzle pieces to create an image, except the image can change based on how one decides to put together the pieces.
